Bottle Project

The objective here was to take an ordinary bottle and show how using different techniques you could create a unique look to each product.

This is that Pumice Soap you see with grits of sand mixed in. Its used for cleaning off grease and paint or anything else normal soap doesn't remove too well. With this one I wanted to reflect the unmistakeable texture of the soap on the outside of the bottle. Also I updated the color scheme of the brand and cut away at the front so that it is visible how much soap you have left.

This is a bottle of guitar polish and again I wanted the design to mimic the product. This was a bit of a personal challenge getting the fretboard to look as true to life as possible. I couldn't allow myself any quarter and wanted it to look authentic. I put the product copy on the inverse of the front logo. To give and interesting effect once you turn the bottle over. It almost forces the buyer to read.

The last bottle is a fictional brand of Hot Sauce. I love hot sauce, period. Rather than rely on company familiarity or boast of scoville units I drew a relationship between spicy sauces and hell fire. I furthered my blaspheme by giving the wrap around a tail and horns and finished the bottle by giving it a 'smoked' gradient effect from the bottom up.

HP Printer Cartridge Re-design

Finally took some decent photos of my Package Design Projects. So first up is my printer cartridge. The final is sort of an amalgamation of several box designs I was brainstorming on and overall I'm very happy with how it turned out. I wanted a box that used a simple but unique shape, that relied strongly on the colors and graphic styles printed on it. In the end, both the black and color cartridge are easily recognizable and carry that unique design into how they are opened. The boxes are smaller than the current incarnation and still have room for a small recycle pouch.

Spidey Senses

Just something quick that I meant to post a few days ago. I don't know why spiderman, but there ya go.

I still need to get all my work from last semester up here. Lately I've been really getting back into painting. And I'm shaping up that design portfolio to shop around to companies. Really need to get off my butt and photograph all of my watercolor work because I'd like to have it up here.
Not much tonight. Just an unfinished explorer. I had Mike Puncekar throw out a tundra for him to be exploring. So Lava Caverns are this guys speciality. I'm trying to experiment more with textures and shaping. I'm also trying to nail down a set of brushes to stick to.

I just updated to CS5 and decided to give the new paint engine a go after watching FRIGHT NIGHT. 6 hours later I was still awake and painting. Obviously the vampire isn't finished yet.

Some illustrations

Yea I really messed up the order of all these. Who cares though? You don't know the difference, right? So I completely forgot to post the illustrative work from last year. Not to be left out, here they are.

I worked on a Childrens book all semester involving a boy and his robot friend. Fun experience.

I am a gigantic fan of Richard Mathesons' I AM LEGEND. So I jumped at the chance to illustrate one of my favorite parts in the book. The book, which is superior in every way to that dull CGI fest nightmare of a film, was originally published in 1954. But it still reads as though its taking place, right now, outside. And i kinda wish is was.... I could so hold off the vampire hoard.

Very last assignment of that year. Our professor discovered a Hero Name Generator , and assigned us each with a character to create. I dug mine big time. Marko Typhus, Warlock Hunter. Anyway yea, look at you viewer, two posts in one night for you. Nice huh?
